Mechanics

An instant jump behind the enemy at up to 600 range, trying to cancel its target. Target cancel does not always land: the chance depends only on the target's «INT» and level - against level 85 fighters 88-99%, against mages 73-86%, even lower with an «INT» dye. Does not work on Raid Bosses, Grand Bosses, invulnerable targets or those protected from debuffs.

# How it works

«Shadow Step» Shadow Step is a skill of dagger users of all three races from level 72, learned from the book «Forgotten Scroll - Shadow Step» Forgotten Scroll - Shadow Step. Cost - 50 MP, cooldown - 75 seconds, range - 600.

Two things happen when it is used:

  1. The character instantly ends up behind the target. The jump always works, even if the target drop failed. The skill can also be used while held, when the character cannot run.
  2. The target rolls the chance to drop its target. If the chance succeeds, the opponent loses their selected target, their ordinary attack and skill cast are interrupted, and auto-attack stops.

Dropping the target is an instant action, not an effect with a duration: there is no icon, and nothing prevents the opponent from selecting a target again right away - by a click, the nearest-target key or a macro with the /target command. So against a player with a targeting macro the gain is a fraction of a second, while they take the target again and start attacking.

# Target drop chance

The chance is calculated by the formula:

chance = 72 + 100 - target level + 30 - target «INT»

72 is the skill level, 100 is its base chance. A result above 100% counts as 100%.

Nothing depends on the dagger user: not their level, gear, enchant or attack attribute. On the target's side, neither «M. Def.», debuff resistance nor resistances matter: only «INT» (with dyes and everything that raises it) and level.

Examples: - Human fighter level 85, «INT» 21: 72 + 100 - 85 + 30 - 21 = 96%. - Dark elf mage level 85, «INT» 44: 72 + 100 - 85 + 30 - 44 = 73%. - The same with a +5 «INT» dye: 72 + 100 - 85 + 30 - 49 = 68%. - Orc fighter level 76, «INT» 18: 72 + 100 - 76 + 30 - 18 = 108, counts as 100%.

# Who it does not work on

The jump behind works on any target, while the target drop does not succeed at all:

Protection from target drop

Who What happens
Raid Bosses and Grand Bosses the target, attack and skill cast are never interrupted
the target drop does not succeed
the target drop does not succeed, and the dagger user gets a message that the target resists
Monsters immune to Deadly Blow the target drop does not succeed

# Monsters, pets and servitors

The chance against a monster is calculated the same way - by its «INT» and level.

If the drop succeeds, the monster forgets all its aggro toward the dagger user, interrupts its hit and skill cast, and does not look for a new target for 2-3 seconds. Then it attacks whoever is left in its aggro list, or the dagger user again if they hit it.

A pet or servitor loses its selected target, and its hit and skill cast are interrupted, but the attack order remains: it keeps hitting the same target.

# How to see your chance

Open the menu with the .cfg command and turn on the option «Skills Chances». After that, every time «Shadow Step» is used, a line with the target drop chance against that target arrives in chat. The number there is not capped, so against low-level warriors it can be above 100%.

# Tested on the server

The rules above were checked by tests on the real server code: a character of the needed class and level is created, who keeps the dagger user targeted and attacks them, «Shadow Step» is used on them thousands of times, and the number of uses in which the target was lost is counted.

A level 85 target keeps the dagger user targeted and attacks them

Target Uses Target dropped By the formula
orc fighter, «INT» 18 4000 99.1% 99%
human fighter, «INT» 21 4000 96.4% 96%
dark elf fighter, «INT» 25 4000 92.3% 92%
kamael, «INT» 29 4000 87.7% 88%
orc mage, «INT» 31 4000 85.9% 86%

dark elf mage, «INT» 54 (+10 dye) 4000 62.7% 63%

The dagger user's level does not matter: target - human mage, «INT» 41

A Raid Boss keeps the dagger user targeted the target remained in 500 uses out of 500

# Specifics of our server

The skill works the same as in the known High Five server builds: the target cancel chance is calculated by the target's «INT» and level instead of landing 100% of the time. How exactly the official server calculates this chance is not reliably known, so the rule is set explicitly:

  1. The target drop follows the formula from the section «Target drop chance»; the chance does not depend on the dagger user.
  2. The target drop does not prevent the opponent from selecting a target again right away.
  3. Target cancel does not work on Raid Bosses and Grand Bosses (the in-game skill description says the same).
